Après des études de droit international (LL.M., Université de Nancy, France 2003), Abbas Poorhashemi a fait un doctorat en droit international (Université Strasbourg, Robert Schuman, France 2005). Il passa aussi une année comme chercheur postdoctoral à l'Université du Québec à Montréal en 2013. Il est été professeur assistant et membre du Conseil scientifique de l'Université des sciences et de la recherche (AIU) depuis 2006 jusqu’à 2017. Il a enseigné le droit international, le droit international de l'environnement, les traités internationaux, le règlement des différends internationaux (y compris l'arbitrage) aux étudiants en Maîtrise et doctorat en droit. Il a été le directeur et co-directeur de plus de 150 mémoires et thèses de droit de l'environnement. En plus, il a pratiqué le droit comme avocat international et conseiller juridique dans les nombreux pays. Actuellement, il est le Président et directeur scientifique de l’Institut Canadien d'expertise en droit international (CIFILE), Toronto, Canada.
